Evangonuts

I have sometimes used a service called Crosscards to send Christian themed cards to family members, it's a nice free service with pretty cool e-cards. Since I like the cards I said yes to the "do you want emails from us?" question. Most of the time they are pretty tame, some have been intriguing, like the ones about Christian martyrs around the world today.

Today though I got one from them that I can only classify as Evangonut stuff. Christian Zionists misread the bible and spew false teaching like mad, and it leads to nutty stuff like supporting Israel over the Arabs no matter how very wrong the Israeli side is.

It also leads to weird stuff like this:

In Genesis 49:25, Jacob blesses his son Joseph
with "blessings of the deep that lieth under."

We believe the Bible points towards the existence of oil, deep
beneath the Land of Israel .

This has been supported by American and Israeli experts in
oil exploration.

Zion Oil & Gas began drilling in northern Israel in 2005.

Results have only strengthened our commitment to on-going oil
exploration in Israel .

Zion Oil & Gas (Ticker Symbol: ZN) has a public offering of $10 units
available so that those who share our vision can become financial partners
in this historic enterprise.

Full details and the offering Prospectus are available on our website www.zionoil.com under "Investor Relations".
To request a hard copy of the offering Prospectus, please call

  1. Larry,

As much as you feel that this is Evangonuts, it is pretty obvious that you are very biased against Israel and thus just as extreme from the opposite side. This company seems to be just one that is exploring for oil in a region that is full of it all around. There was a discovery according to the NYtimes off the coast.

I guess to me it not such a big deal but it intrigues me that you were upset enough to blog about it. Just hit delete.

  2. My issue is when people equate the current day "state" of Israel with the People of God. It is plainly taught in the scriptures that the real Israel is the Church. What follows from making the mistake of thinking the "State of Israel" is Israel is a distortion of American foreign policy in the Middle East due to this false belief. We have supported Israel even on those occasions when they have clearly been in the wrong.

As for Israel itself, I think that had to be just about the worst idea the Jewish people have had since they decided to reject the free salvation from sin offered by Our Lord Jesus Christ. Putting a Jewish country in Palestine might have seemed like a good idea at the time but really it was not so bright. I'm not a prophet at all but I would not expect it to last any longer than the crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem did. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Jerusalem)

Finally, I find the whole idea of a state based on ethnicity, race or religion to be stupid. People are people in my opinion. Here in America we have all sorts of ethnic groups living together in relative harmony, including just as many Jews as live in the State of Israel. There is no such thing as an Ethnic American really. Americans are just people who live here and who agree to live under our constitution (of course our government no longer follows it and that is clearly a problem, which, as you must know if you've read much of my blog, is a pet peeve of mine.)

Of course all of the above is colored by the fact that I don't actually believe in ANY sort of government, being a Pacifist Christian Anarchist at heart. :-)

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  3. And did you notice the blending of the American flag with the Israeli flag? [barf!]

NBC anti-life?

I would boycott NBC, if I ever watched it that is. I actually never watch anything on the old line networks, NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX. Everything I watch is on the cable only stations... do they still broadcast over the air? Ah well, this story is about the fact that it seems NBC refused to air an ad put together by some Catholic outfit that features an embryo and all of the hardships it faced in early life ending up with the revelation that they were talking about Obama. Here is the ad , check it out and see how unoffensive it is. Like I said, if I watched them I'd quit now. :-/

Wikileaks and police state censorship

I saw an article today on SF Gate about some nit wit Bush appointed Federal Judge ordering a website I'd never heard of called Wikileaks shut down because they were publishing some bank documents from some corrupt Swiss bank. The amusing thing is that they can't actually do it! Even more amusing is that this just draws attention to the site and makes it that much more visible, yay idiot goons! :-) There are mirror sites all over the world and it's almost impossible for thuggish police state goons to figure out how to close off all of the leaks :-) One mirror site is here: http://wikileaks.be/wiki/Wikileaks The US site they tried to close down is still here: http://88.80.13.160 "Cowardice asks the question, 'Is it safe?' Expediency asks the question, 'Is it politic?' Vanity asks the question, 'Is it popular?' But, conscience asks the question, 'Is it right?' And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe,

Child Driven Education

Here is a Ted Talk with Sugata Mitra on Child Driven Education... very unschooling-like I think.  :-)  I've seen videos of him before, this is an update on his research on letting groups of kids learn on the internet, mostly without any supervision at all.  Posted via email from The Angry Gnome
