I have always hated cars. For much of my adult life I did not even own one of the evil contraptions. Several years ago, in 2003, I purchased a used 2002 Toyota Corolla with fewer than 25,000 miles on it.
This is the nearest thing to a new car I've ever owned. I bought it because my bike was stolen from a BART station and I was fed up with having to rent a car if I wanted to go on a trip and with having to borrow one to get larger items from stores.
Now the thing is almost paid off, I only have four more payments to make and it's mine free and clear. It still runs great and is in good condition inside and out. I don't use it for that much, going to church or the store for the most part. I usually ride my bike to BART these days since it's only 2 miles of flat bike path each way.
Why this post though? Because my daughter Lora has confiscated MY car!
When she came here a few months ago she arrived in a beat up car that we determined probably would be difficult to make legal in California so I encouraged her to use a bike or walk instead of drive, in fact I bought her a nice bicycle to use around town. I gave her a key to my car in case there was an emergency. As it turns out Lora doesn't walk or use the bike unless I force her to! She has an endless supply of "reasons" why she can't walk or ride. My car is never in the driveway anymore, it is almost always in her possession. I pretty much have to borrow my own stinking car if I want to use it! I have asked her over and over not to use it but she seems unable to grasp the fact that I am absolutely serious about it.
I guess I'll be forced to confiscate my key to get my car back. I need to take it in for an oil change, I might decide to go to the hills for a morning walk... I want my car available, it's why I paid $12,000 + for the carbon spewing thing!
