As I think I've mentioned Lora, Serenity and I are looking for new digs since Mike and Maryann are getting married, which is very cool for all concerned. Mike and I have been roomies for many years so this is a big change. Anyway, today we went and looked at a place out in the hills... mountains almost... south of Livermore.
View Larger Map It sits on 5 acres and it's pretty far out and it's pretty rustic, which means Lora and Serenity and I all *love* it! It's up around 2500 feet in elevation so they get a little snow in the winters, not much though. Since it's higher it's also about 10 degrees cooler than the valley we live in now in the summer time, which Lora was thrilled to hear. It is off of Mines Road near mile post 17, well that's where you leave the pavement anyway... then you go another 2 miles to the property which is on a hill with a great view to the west. It's off the grid, which means there is no electricity, there is a phone line in though. It's about 5 miles beyond the last trace of cell phone service too. There are three big water tanks, filled by a generator powered well pump. There is a two bedroom mobile, somewhat remodeled and a very funky "bunk-house" that I've labeled "Grandpas Studio." Though maybe it will be Lora's I don't know yet. I may prefer to set up in the main house out on the sun deck. There is a barn and fenced areas for some livestock. *IF* we were to get it we'd be getting some chickens right away, some milk goats fairly soon, and eventually some horses as well. The whole thing is dependent upon the owner's offer on a nearby piece of property going through. The rent is affordable for us and there is even the possibility of eventually being able to buy it. Next door there is a 10,000 acre cattle ranch with permission to hike it, and it's over a ridge or two from Del Valle, where we like to go camping. The commute to BART is way longer, but in TIME it's the same as I'm doing now. 40 minutes of driving instead of 40 minutes of walking :-) Pray for us that we are able to get this place, it's perfect for us.
